The lotus is an amazing plant. It grows in pond water and it’s roots are totally submerged in mud. Not just any mud. Mud that is fairly devoid of nutrients or vital organisms. Toxins settle into the water and the mud can contain this; yet the lotus reaches beyond the mud and murky water. It rises up into the air and blooms in a glorious beauty that is admired and loved by generations and across multiple cultures. Is it any wonder why we love and admire the lotus?

We are creatures that have many attributes both to admire and love as well. Humans come from a primordial soup of bodily fluids mixed during an act that can be quite beautiful or even violent and ugly. Even when the beginnings of this life are unstable, rough, and delicate, the human being forms and emerges as a being capable of beautiful acts of love, kindness and generosity. Just like any living thing, there are those that do not do well in their environment. However, those that rise above where they come from can be an inspiration to all around them.

Who inspires you? Where did they come from? What was there life like growing up and what were they exposed to? What loving acts have they contributed to the world that make it a better place?

In this time of turmoil, confusion, and separation we can look to those people who rise above the deep mud of ugly intentions. Acts from those who wish to create a toxic environment can give us reasons to fall into the trap of hate and dissonance. Or, we can gaze upon the wholeness that is created by those who understand that we are all one. That when one is hurting, we all feel it. When one is lifted, we all can rise to meet them. None of us are truly alone. Though we bloom in our own way, we are all from that same primordial mud. That mud may be the key to creating our greatest beauty… if we let it.

How will your bloom inspire others?
